Henry Schriemer received the BSc degree in mathematics, and the PhD degree in physics, from the University of Manitoba, Canada, in 1987 and 1997, respectively. He is currently a Professor in Electrical Engineering at the University of Ottawa where he previously held an NCIT Research Fellowship in Photonics from 2003 to 2005. Prior to this, he spent several years in the photonics industry and earlier held a postdoctoral fellowship in laser physics and nanophotonics at the van der Waals-Zeeman Institute, The Netherlands. He is Associate Director of the uOttawa SUNLAB, and leads its SAGE (Smart Autonomous Grid Edge) activities. He has over 25 years’ experience in engineered complex systems research and development, and now works extensively with companies to enhance and add value to their technologies. His recent activities have ranged across the photovoltaics landscape, with a present emphasis on the convergence of networks, computing, and technologies needed to realize the smart grid vision. He has authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications.
